I was wondering were guides get there egg sources from?   I know typically the unwritten rule is that they keep the eggs from the fish their clients get.  I haveprobably 10-12 quarts for the upcoming springer season.  However, they always go so quickly and there is no change to replenish with a hen springer since the eggs will not be close to maturity.  Were can a person buy bulk uncured that wont cost a small fortune.  Just curious.

There is amermanns and something like nwextreme baits. I can't recall the exact name, but they get eggs frrom Alaska and I am not sure if they still have any. You could call one of the Indian hatcheries and see if they have excess from steelhead. State hatcheries sell all of that off though...and sunrise bait co. Everything is in OR.

The source of the eggs depends on the time of the year, some parts of the year, you get roe from fisheries in Alaska, and it usually comes frozen. Roe can also come from hatchery surplus, and that is usually available fresh in the fall. What I find to be the most frequently available source for fresh Uncured eggs, at least in the Oregon area,is the tribal gillnet fisheries on the Columbia. I have chosen not to buy any bait in bulk like this, because people are usually less than straightforward about where it comes from, and I have no interest in supporting those fisheries.

Thanks RB. I'll givethese guys a call today on price.  When fishing for springers i like using a lot of bait and keeping it fresh. It can go so fast especially if you have to cast it a long ways.
