Power wash the dang thing!!!!  As long as you keep it far enough away so as to not chip off the final coat it works like a charm.

1.  Spray rod/cork with simple green/orange glo
2.  Let it sit for a few minutes
3. Rinse!

I've never had rods with a quarter inch of egg goo look brand new in 1 minute!  It works awesome.  Just remember not to get too close!
