« Topic Start: January 25, 2009, 12:12:19 AM »

Just got a Skookum toon', and could use some seasoned veteran's advice on setting up the anchor for the least amount of hassle.  I have taken it out a few times, and the boat handles fantastic, but the anchor system leaves a bit to be desired.  My question is if anyone out there has had a steelheader, or similar boat, and replaced the rope ratchet with a cleat, or any other tips or tricks to getting this dialed in.

Any advice?

Check Out Leelock anchor systems. I'm not sure if they have what you are looking for, but they specalize in Anchor systems so I figured it might be worth a try.

Leelock systems are pretty sweet, but I don't think they would adapt to pontoon life very well.  If I still had a drift boat, I would probably have one though.

Thanks for the link FF!

I have the 12 foot Skookum Steelheader II Guide Model...ditch the rachet, and put in a cleat and a regular side anchor system, just like on a driftboat.

Works like a charm.

Let me know if you want some pics of how to set it up.

Barbless...it looks like your setup is almost there, the only thing you really need to do is ditch the ratchet, put a regular pulley in its place, and then add a cleat...

View from the aft end showing everything:

View from the side showing where you need to add your cleat and pulley...

And view from the front showing the whole shebang:

Thanks for the pics Todd!

Only one question: How is the cleat attached to the frame; screws or weld?

Drilled holes and screwed it in...you can get a cleat for about $10 at any marine store, along with the pulleys you'll need, too.

I hate to resurrect a long-dead topic, but I just wanted to thank FireFish for the recommendation of a LeeLock anchor system for the toon.  I wasn't convinced that it would work well on a pontoon, but it does work very well.   It wasn't cheap, and Sportco didn't have them in stock for quite some time, but I finally got my hands on one and it is great! Thanks again FireFish...

Installed LeeLock 1/2" Cleat (with steelhead):
