http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/tribal/index.htm#chehalisbiolofisher beat me to it...at least on the WDFW site they show that areas 2A and 2D are open for the same fifteen week time period, and 2A and 2D are EXACTLY where they will catch a lot of springers.
As I suspected from the beginning, no matter what they call it, this may be a springer fishery that incidentally catches a few sturgeon...the springers are worth serious cash, and if the QIN gave one shiat about the under-escaped Chehalis springers, they wouldn't ever be prosecuting a fishery like this.
I guess that shows you where they stand on fish conservation in Grays Harbor...decimated the winter coho run already, are doing a number on the wild winter steelhead, and now are fishing for fifteen weeks over a small run of springers that is only forecasted to be a little over 50% of the escapement goal.
Over the past six or seven years it has become evident to all involved that no matter what the QIN says, they are practicing a scorched earth policy in Grays Harbor...netting everything they can, and conservation be damned.
I've got some inquiries in, and so do some friends who are better connected in Grays Harbor County than I am, and I'll share whatever I find out...
Fish on...
